Notice Your Neighbourhood in Basingstoke

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has launched a ‘Notice Your Neighbourhood’ campaign.

It’s a drive which is designed to encourage residents to notice issues such as graffiti, fly tipping and abandoned vehicles, and to alert the appropriate organisation so that action can be taken.

Community Safety Patrol Officers (CSPOs) are hitting the streets during the three-month focused campaign, which runs until the end of March.

They will be acting on problems which have been already been flagged through feedback in community surveys and direct contact with the council, and will also be encouraging further reports.

The council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Community Safety, Cllr Simon Bound, said: “We really want to hear from residents.

“We can’t help with everything, but there are plenty of things we are able to support with. Please contact us if you spot graffiti, fly tipping or abandoned vehicles.

“You can report damaged trees, found needles, litter, broken glass and dog fouling.

“We also want to hear about overhanging vegetation and hedges, excessive weeds on busy footways, overflowing bins and damaged equipment in parks and open spaces

“It’s so easy to let the relevant organisation know about a problem within your area, including through a number of apps.

“It can sometimes be difficult to know which organisation you need to get in contact with, but if you download a reporting app from the app store, you can get your message to the right people in just a few taps.

“Our CSPOs are great at spotting issues when they’re out and about, but we also rely on having frequent and direct contact from residents.”

There are many ways to report issues. There are a number of apps you can download including ‘Love Clean Streets’ ‘Fix My Street’, and ‘My Council’. You can also visit https://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/report, or call the borough council on 01256 844844.

The campaign is being run with support from local housing associations, and is one of a series of campaigns which the Community Safety Patrol team will conduct throughout the year to tackle on-going problems.

The aim of the campaign programme is to raise awareness, identify areas for improvement and to work with partner organisations, businesses and residents to find sustainable long term solutions.
