Residents received hundreds of pieces of crime prevention equipment during a series of recent roadshows, called “Operation Stronghold” across Basingstoke & Deane, Hart District and Rushmoor Borough.
The 12 roadshows, aimed at providing crime prevention advice and materials to enable local residents to empower and protect themselves, were organised by the Safer North Hampshire* community safety team. At each roadshow, council officers, Hampshire Constabulary and Neighbourhood Watch representatives were available to discuss protecting homes, vehicles and belongings. A total of 586 people visited the roadshows, and received 396 pieces of crime prevention kit, including 68 padlocks, 5 alarmed padlocks, 52 timer switches, 64 door handle alarms and 66 personal alarms.
David Lipscombe, Projects Team Leader for Safer North Hampshire community safety team, said: “The roadshows were organised to respond to an increase in thefts from vehicles, sheds and garages which generally happen around this time of year. It was really encouraging to see so many people come out specifically to talk to us and to receive information. We also spoke to a number of individuals who had previously been victims of crime who felt reassured following our help and advice.”
