Summer fun in Basingstoke

Young people aged between 10 and 17 can take part in a summer of fun when the Streetz scheme returns to community centres around Basingstoke and Deane Borough.

A host of exciting activities are planned during the school summer holidays from Monday 23 July to Friday 31 August.

The Summer Streetz project is funded by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, with support from Anvil Arts and is delivered by local community groups.

Streetz sessions will include fun and games, such as zorbing, karaoke, arts and crafts, cooking session and plenty more, to give young people the chance to try something new and socialise during the summer evenings.

Building on last year’s successful programme, the sessions will run at community venues across the borough including The Warren Youth Club in Hatch Warren, Westside Community Centre in South Ham, Oakridge Hall, Sycamore Halls Community Centre in Winklebury; the YMCA at Roger Morris Centre, Eastrop, and Sherfield Park Community Centre.

In addition a media project, funded by Anvil Arts and delivered by 7Stream Media, will give young people the opportunity to learn film techniques on mobile phones and professional cameras and enter a competition to win a camera, software and equipment for their youth club.

The winner and runners up in the competition will also be invited to take part in further media workshops in the October half term.

The borough council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Community Safety Cllr Simon Bound said: “The Streetz sessions are now in the tenth year and they have become more popular every year, so it’s wonderful that young people will get the chance to take part again – there will be plenty of activities to keep everybody happy.

“Thanks to the community groups and volunteers around the borough who take the time to make this happen.”
