Summer Streetz in Basingstoke

With Summer Streetz entering its seventh year a fun filled programme of free activities is planned, offering young people in the borough the chance to try something new during the summer holiday evenings.

The Summer Streetz project, initiated by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council working with partners from public, private and community sectors, will run from Monday 27 July until Friday 28 August and include activities such as, creative art and music sessions, multi-sports, street dance and open access youth club sessions.

Building on the success of previous years of the summer programme and thanks to community groups getting involved, the summer holiday sessions will run at community venues across the borough including Bramley, Brighton Hill, Buckskin, Eastrop, Hatch Warren, Kingsclere, Oakridge, Popley, Rooksdown, Sherfield Park, South Ham, Tadley, Winklebury.

This year’s programme has again been made possible due to funding from the council and continued sponsorship from Affinity Sutton housing association, Anvil Arts along with partnership support from Safer North Hampshire.

The borough council’s Cabinet Member for Partnerships Cllr Cathy Osselton said: “The Streetz sessions have become established and valued within communities over the last few years and it’s great that community groups have taken ownership of them and putting on activities that the young people in the borough really want to do.

“I know so many young people are looking forward to getting involved this year and even trying out new activities.”

Programmes for Streetz activities are available on the council’s website at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/streetz or ‘like’ the Streetz page on Facebook.
