Basingstoke school children learn to Think Safe

Nearly 1500 year six children in the borough will have the opportunity to learn the importance of keeping safe thanks to the Think Safe event taking place over the next two weeks.

During the event, organised by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, from Monday 8 June at Bramley Training Camp, each child will participate in a variety of sessions run by the Police, The Safer North Hampshire Team, The Royal National Lifeboat, Trading Standards officers, the Fire Service, British Red Cross and Sainsbury’s, all aimed to help to keep children safe.

The sessions include talks on fire safety, first aid, stranger danger, cyber safety and sea safety, and pupils will experience live mock-ups of dangerous situations they may face in their day to day lives. Under the guidance of the experts, they will learn how to respond and the correct way to keep themselves and others safe.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Partnerships Cllr Cathy Osselton said: “The annual Think Safe event gives borough children the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience from professionals that are used to dealing with emergencies, to help keep them safe in the future.”
